Cynthia’s Thank You to the Network

Cynthia Martin has begun her new role in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit at the Waterloo Regional Police Services. She is touched by all of the thank you messages she has received since her secondment ended at the Region of Waterloo and the Wellbeing WR backbone team. See her message below!

Hello Everyone!

I have arrived at my new destination (can you believe it has almost been 2 months since I left WWR?). Paige has passed along the many beautiful thank you messages this network sent, I also appreciate all the personal ones that many of you have sent me over the last few months.

My role with Waterloo Regional Police Services now is in the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Unit.  We are making sure we are current in the supports and services locally and supporting officers in training and education.  I look forward to working with you all in this new role, in a different capacity.  Wellbeing Waterloo Region Network and Backbone staff have taught me so much since 2018. I have so many favorite memories including the large events, Equity training with Kike, the Journey to Reconciliation Education series, Challenging Barriers to Equity (last major event before Covid) and so many more.

It is amazing to see the growth and strengthening of resources in this community.  We still have many gaps in services, however it was such an honour to work with so many dedicated community members who pulled together and supported one another when things got really tough.  The development of many Indigenous and Equity roles in this region in response to the Wellbeing Survey and the advocacy addressed by this network.  Thank you for learning along side me and being that gentle “Yoga” teacher who coached me when I didn’t understand some of the concepts.

Thank you again.  It has been my honour working with you all and has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.  It is so amazing to have such a supportive network around me. Keep in touch.

Cynthia
